Celebrate 50 years of The Award in India with the 2nd Gold Solar
Project in the Himalayas
9th- 25th June 2012 Spiti, Northern Himalayas, India
Calling Gold Award Holders and Gold Award participants to
celebrate the 50 years of The International Award in India by
engaging in a Sustainable Project in Key Monastery, Spiti,
Himachal Pradesh. Organised by the Gold Award Holders' Society
of India and Award Partner Ecosphere, it is a unique opportunity
to be a part of the environment preservation while social
networking with Buddhist locals and other Gold participants. The
construction of a solar facility in this fragile cold desert,
will instill environmental consciousness by ensuring long-term
significant social impact. Read more about 2012 Project
The trip will traverse from New Delhi to the cold desert
landscape of Spiti, home to some of the oldest Buddhist
Monasteries and temples in the world at a height of 4000 meters
above sea level. In June 2011,a group of Award Participants
spent two weeks successfully building a Solar Passive Bath in
the remote Buddhist nunnery of Morang Village, Spiti. This
project has allowed the nuns to save over 3.5 tons of fuel wood
per annum and provide ready access to hot water in the winters
when temperatures dip to minus 35 degrees centigrade.
